Fort Wayne Community Schools in Fort Wayne, IN, seeks a Special Education Assistant to support teachers and students in special education or general classrooms. You will assist with instructional clerical tasks and manage student activities for those with special needs.

Qualifications

• Candidate must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Prefer candidate who has previous experience working with students with special needs.
• Must be flexible to meet changing needs of students and have strong tutorial skills.
• Must be able to relate well with students staff and parents.
• Incumbents must possess knowledge of child guidance principles and practices and basic instructional methods and techniques.
• Must be willing to supervise students in community settings.

Responsibilities

• Special Education Assistant duties include assisting teachers with instructional clerical tasks and student management.
• Support daily life activities for students with special needs in classrooms.
• Participate in training provided by the Special Education Department.

Skills

High school diploma or GED

Experience with students with special;

Strong tutorial skills

Oral and written communication

Education

Two years of college experience

Two-year college degree

Para-Pro Assessment

One year or 1000 hours in school/working with children

Annual evaluations

48 college credit hours

Child Development Associate (CDA) credentials
