Job summary

Fort Wayne Community Schools seeks a Special Education Assistant to support teachers, manage instructional clerical tasks, and assist with daily living activities for students with special needs in the classroom.

The role follows the school year schedule with shifts roughly 7:15am to 3:30pm; candidates should be flexible, patient, and able to work with students, staff, and parents. Experience with child guidance and basic instructional methods is preferred.

Qualifications

• Candidate must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Prefer candidate who has previous experience working with students with special needs.
• Must be flexible to meet changing needs of students and have strong tutorial skills.
• Must be able to relate well with students, staff and parents.
• Must have a positive attitude and be able to complete tasks independently.
• Strong office computer and oral and written communication skills.
• Must participate in training provided by the Special Education Department.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with instructional clerical tasks, student management, and daily life activities for special education students.
• Support classroom routines and behavior guidance as directed by the teacher.
• Supervise students in community settings when applicable.
• Participate in training provided by the Special Education Department.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Experience with students with special needs
