Job summary

Dennis Yarmouth Regional School District is seeking a Paraeducator IA/Special Education Assistant at Station Avenue Elementary School in South Yarmouth, MA. The role supports students with disabilities in instructional settings, helps implement accommodations, and assists with data collection and behavior support under supervision.

Hours are 6.5 hours per day, Monday to Friday, with a half-hour lunch. Compensation ranges from $25.70 to $32.30 per hour under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Qualifications

• Requires Associate's degree or 2 years of college, or ParaPro test passing score.
• Knowledge of child development and experience with students with special needs is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct instructional support to students with disabilities in the classroom or in a separate setting.
• Implements and/or adapts modifications and accommodations to the environment or curricular materials as directed by the special education teacher/liaison, classroom teacher or related services provider.
• Collects data regarding students' goals and/or objectives as directed by licensed staff.
• Supports the behavioral/social-emotional needs of children by utilizing pro-active, pro-social problem solving skills.
• Support special education students by providing assistance with equipment (i.e. assistive technology).
• Assist with the supervision of students during play and lunch periods.
• Foster student independence while supporting individual needs.
• Responsible for carrying out tasks that allow students to meet their IEP goals and appropriately function in the educational setting.
• Work may include, but is not limited to assisting with personal hygiene, direct behavior services and data collection.
• Assist in the lifting and/or toileting of student into medical equipment, such as standers or other adaptive equipment as needed or as required in IEP.
• Maintain proper confidentiality of student records.
• Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance.
• Supporting the toileting and daily living skills of students can be an essential function of the job.

Education
