Job summary

Meadows Elementary School in Portland, OR is seeking a Part Time Functional Living Skills Educational Assistant to support students with special needs under a certificated teacher. The role involves one-on-one and small group instruction, IEP interpretation, and collaboration with staff and outside agencies.

193-day calendar; prorated start date. Experience with autism spectrum disorders and related needs is preferred; NVCI training is welcomed.

Qualifications

• Experience working with students with special needs, including autism spectrum disorders and other disabilities.
• Knowledge of IDEA provisions or ability to learn them quickly.
• Ability to work under guidance of a certificated teacher in paraprofessional roles.
• Clear written and spoken communication in English.
• Willingness to obtain required trainings such as NVCI.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and implementing learning experiences for students enrolled in the program.
• Confer with teachers to provide feedback on student performance in tutorial and testing activities.
• Interpret IEPs and related plans to support instruction and behavior goals.
• Instruct students in small group and one-on-one settings.
• Revise lesson plans or strategies to achieve IEP goals.
• Help students develop positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults.
• Promote student safety and assist in behavior management as needed.
• Collaborate with classroom staff and outside agencies to implement individual plans.
• Attend trainings and perform clerical duties as needed, including attendance and file maintenance.
