Job summary

Fort Madison Community School District is seeking a Special Education Assistant to support students with individualized education plans. Under a certified professional, you will assist with instructional activities, behavioral supports, and daily living tasks to help students reach IEP goals.

This 200-day contract requires a high school diploma or GED and offers a classified salary on the district schedule.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; equivalent training/experience acceptable.
• Delivers instructional support and interventions under the direction of a certified professional.
• Ability to lift up to 45 pounds and assist with health-related tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

• Delivers instructional interventions designed by teachers to help students meet educational and life skill goals.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and manage time effectively.
• Attend to students’ health and physical needs as required.
• Escort students to/from lunch, activities, and field trips as needed.
• Assist in crisis situations using approved de-escalation strategies.
• Work under supervision with other duties assigned by the supervising teacher or administrators.

Education

High School Diploma, GED, or any combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
