Job summary

Fort Madison Community School District seeks a Special Education Classroom Associate to provide instructional, supervisory and behavioral support under certified staff guidance. The role involves assisting with small groups, managing classroom routines, and upholding safety and respectful dialogue throughout the school day.

The successful candidate will follow district IEPs, support mobility, monitor student behavior, and collaborate with administrative staff during incidents.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or GED.
• Ability to assist in reading, writing and mathematics instruction.
• NCRC before starting if not already met.

Responsibilities

• Assist in setting up classroom routines and transitions.
• Inform the teacher of observed behaviors needing attention or office intervention.
• Support students needing assistance and manage behavior with positive strategies.
• Supervise bus, lunchroom, classrooms and transitions; ensure safety.
• Follow IEPs and consult with Special Education Teacher regularly.
• May assist students with mobility.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Two years of higher education

Associates degree or higher

Voluntary Para certification or NCRC Bronze
