Job summary

Belden Elementary in Canton seeks a Special Education Assistant (Cross Cat) to support teachers in implementing IEPs and assist students with their educational needs. This position runs 6.5 hours per day, 191 days per year, at an hourly rate of $18.95.

The role requires a High School diploma or equivalent, an Educational Aide Permit, and a commitment to confidentiality and collaboration with staff. Applicants must meet Highly Qualified criteria as defined by state requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist students on trips.

• Assist in active therapy programs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a Cross Categorical Assistant include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assists the teacher to implement the IEP's
• Assists students as needed to fulfill their educational needs
• Helps students develop a sense of independence and personal responsibility
• Provides lavatory assistance when necessary
• Assists students during lunch and recreational activities
• Assists students to and from classes
• Assists students on trips
• Understands and maintains the academic and behavioral standards set for the students by the certified teacher
• Assists students loading and unloading on buses
• Assists in active therapy programs
• Performs other duties as assigned

Applicants for the above positions are REQUIRED to be Highly Qualified, which is defined as: Two (2) years of college (Minimum of 48 Semester Hours, or 72 Quarter Hours), or possess an Associate's Degree, or passed the Praxis Paraprofessional Assessment Exam.

Applicants must submit a copy of their Praxis Paraprofessional Assessment Exam results, or a copy of their college transcript(s) to verify their Highly Qualified Status. Applicants must also have a valid Educational Aide Permit, or obtain one immediately upon being employed with the Canton City School District. If you do not meet the criteria for Highly Qualified, you are not eligible to apply.
