Job Description
Title: Special Education and Student Services Program Director for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
Terms: BASAS, Grade 10B
Reports to: Education and Student Services Supervisor for Applied Behavior Analysis
The Special Education and Student Services Program Director for ABA is responsible for developing and monitoring structured and individualized interventions utilizing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and systematic, data‑based programs (discrete trial, incidental, task analyses) for behavior reduction and skill acquisition. The director oversees applied behavior analytic programming throughout the district for students K0-12+. He/she supervises ABA Specialists, provides direct supervision, evaluates job performance, and works collaboratively to deliver high‑quality intervention across educational environments.
Responsibilities
- Completing evaluations to determine eligibility for Applied Behavior Analytic services
- Attending annual reviews and evaluation meetings to determine ongoing services for students
- Planning and conducting district‑wide professional development, including Safety Care, Behavior Management Series, and 10 hours of training for ABA Specialists each year
- Hiring, onboarding, supervising, and evaluating ABA Specialists across schools
- Reviewing annual reviews and progress reports throughout the year
- Analyzing data and assisting classroom staff in modifying curricula for each student weekly
- Developing student‑specific management guidelines (e.g., instruction schedule, strategies, programs, reinforcers, activities, rapport building) and updating them as necessary
- Collaborating to ensure high‑quality intervention across environments and building relationships with school leaders and clinical staff
- Disseminating family resources including community supports and insurance‑based ABA information
- Attending training opportunities assigned by the supervisor
- Participating in ABA strand site visit walk‑throughs and facilitating strand growth from feedback
- Responding promptly to behavioral crises, staffing issues, and other classroom problems
- Maintaining privacy of all student‑specific information (HIPAA)
- Performing other duties as requested by the supervisor, assistant director, or executive director
- During ESY, performing administrative duties such as summer evaluations, updating files, supporting ESY programs
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education, Education, Psychology, or related field
- Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification
- Licensed Applied Behavior Analyst through the state of Massachusetts
- At least 2 years experience developing and supervising ABA intervention programs
- At least 2 years experience supervising direct service providers
- Demonstrated knowledge of standardized assessments, functional behavior assessments, data collection and report writing
- Experience developing Behavior Support Plans and Individualized Curriculum Plans (DTT, task analysis, incidental teaching strategies)
- Experience/knowledge in Special Education Law and IEP process
- Effective written and oral communication skills with students, families, teachers, and administrators
- Demonstrated growth toward cultural competence
