Abilities First, Inc. in New Windsor, NY seeks a dedicated Teacher Aide to support the Educational Learning Experience program.

You will assist the Classroom Teacher and Teacher Assistant in implementing students’ IEP goals and help meet their educational, physical, social, and emotional needs. The role follows a school calendar, with hours 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, 32.5 hours weekly, 48 weeks per year, and offers benefits including health, dental, vision, and retirement options.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in early childhood or special education preferred.
• Ability to push and pull students in wheelchairs, lift, bend, squat, turn in the knees, pivot and grasp with both hands, with or without accommodation.

Responsibilities

• Follows classroom schedule to achieve individual goals.
• Assists in conducting individual and group activities.
• Keeps student workstations/areas organized.
• Assist in construction of teacher-developed materials.
• Attend staff meetings and job skill training.
• Attend therapy sessions to allow for carryover in the classroom.
• Escort and assist students to and from school buses while promoting independence.
• Attends all specials with students (PE, art, music).
• Sets out lunches and adaptive feeding equipment; assists with meal preparation.
• Set up computers and adaptive equipment.
