Responsibilities

• Engage students in instructional activities under the direction of the teacher.
• Help students master instructional materials assigned by teachers.
• Perform clerical duties in support of the special education classroom (record attendance, reproduce materials, type forms, create bulletin boards).
• Assist in the modification of instructional materials.
• Administer, score and record tests and quizzes as the teacher recommends.
• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material.
• Collect and record data related to students’ IEP objectives and plans.
• Catalogue and file instructional materials; maintain inventory and prepare orders.
• Read to students and participate in oral communication with students.
• Operate classroom equipment for instructional purposes.
• Assist students in the library or media center.
• Supervise students during lunch, assemblies, and transitions.
• Maintain ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
• Participate in training as assigned.
• Provide instruction to small groups using teacher-designed lesson plans.
• Support a positive learning environment and student discipline.
• Perform hygiene-related tasks as assigned; follow training by a nurse for medical services.
• Perform physical/behavioral management procedures as assigned per students’ needs.
• Perform specialized services as assigned (Braille, augmentative communication devices, etc.).
• Deliver PCS in accordance with IEP requirements.
• Maintain documentation of SHARS billable PCS activities.
• Follow safety protocols and maintain technology competence.
• Implement alternative instruction methods as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
