Job summary

The role involves one-on-one and small group work, collaboration with therapists, and helping with student care, safety, and behavior documentation, while ensuring confidentiality and adherence to school policies.

Qualifications

• Must possess effective written and oral self-expressive skills.
• Satisfactory completion of Red Cross First Aid Course including CPR within 60 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher with instructional-related activities and non-instructional assignments under the supervision of the teacher (one-on-one or small group).
• Work directly with students under the direction of instructional and/or pupil appraisal staff including speech pathologists and therapists.
• Perform non-complex health procedures as outlined in Louisiana law where applicable.
• Assist and escort students to and from destinations and attend to personal hygiene and care needs.
• Make accommodations/modifications for students under direction of supervising teachers.
• Guide independent study, enrichment and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
• Confer with the classroom teacher regarding major decisions relative to student assignments or behavior.
• Assist the special education teacher in activities related to the course of instruction and maintaining classroom organization.
• Monitor student behavior and maintain documentation of care provided to the child.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information.
