Job summary

Bedford County Public Schools FOREST MIDDLE in Forest, Virginia, seeks a Special Education Paraprofessional to assist a special education teacher in providing functional, instructional and behavioral support to students with disabilities.

The role requires a high school diploma (or GED), with preferred experience with disabled children, and a valid Virginia driver’s license. Position is full-time and 185 days per year.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Some experience working with disabled children preferred.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving history.

Responsibilities

• Assist the special education teacher with instructional activities and behavioral interventions, as well as implementing services and supports in students’ IEPs.
• Assist in preparing the classroom environment and materials, including acquiring resources within the school environment and using assistive technology as needed.
• Support individual student needs, preferences and interests under supervision.
• Participate in in-service training programs as needed.
• Assist students with daily living activities (toileting, mobility, dressing, hygiene, communication).
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising administrator.
