Job summary

IRVING INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT seeks a Special Education Aide to assist in a functional environment (LIFE) and support students with disabilities. The role involves helping implement classroom programs, personal care needs, behavior management, and instructional activities under the direction of a certified teacher and principal.

The position requires an Educational Aide I Paraprofessional Certificate and a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work well with children with disabilities.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Keep accurate records of students with disabilities and furnish to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus duty, playground, and community.
  • Assist teacher in maintaining, copying, transferring confidential folders as required.
  • Assist special needs students with tasks including transferring to/from wheelchairs, lifting, positioning, feeding, bathroom needs, personal hygiene.
  • Assist in managing behavior of students and crisis intervention.
  • Adapt to each student’s medical, physical, communicative, emotional, and safety needs through in-service and/or teacher direction.
  • Prepare materials for individual students or small groups to develop skills under teacher direction.
