Job summary

Palomacares in Little Elm/Frisco area seeks a part-time Special Education Teacher / Literacy & Communication Tutor for a young adult with autism. You will assess literacy, design an individualized plan, and deliver explicit literacy instruction with phonics, vocabulary, and visual supports.

You will support AAC use, coordinate with a speech-language pathologist when authorized, adapt to sensory and attention needs, and maintain brief progress records.

Qualifications

• Special education teaching certification is required.
• Literacy instruction and assessment skills.
• Ability to tailor instruction for autism and nonverbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Assess current literacy (letter recognition, phonics, comprehension).
• Develop an individualized literacy plan and deliver systematic instruction.
• Use phonics, functional vocabulary, picture and word supports.
• Support communication with AAC and visual supports; coordinate with speech-language pathologist when authorized.
• Adapt sessions to sensory, attention and regulation needs.
• Keep brief, measurable progress records.
• Schedule about three sessions per week of 30–60 minutes; compensation negotiable.
