Job summary

The Providence Public Schools District seeks a Special Education self-contained alternate Teacher Assistant for the 2026-27 school year at Vartan Gregorian Elementary School in Providence, RI. This is a one-year position with potential displacement or non-renewal for SY27-28, though displaced assistants remain district employees and will be guaranteed a position.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree required for this role.
48 college credits required as an alternative.
Passing score of 461 on the ParaPro Test.
RIDE Teacher Assistant Training Program Certificate required.

Responsibilities

Participate in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning.
Conduct learning exercises with small groups of students.
Guide students in developing positive relationships with peers and adults.
Assist with supervision of pupils in classrooms, corridors, yards, lavatories and on field trips.
Assist Pre-K through 5th grade students with toileting, dressing, feeding, positioning and self-care.
Correct students' work under teacher supervision and prescribe additional work to remediate weaknesses.
Serve as the chief source of information for substitutes and support staff.
Attend ongoing professional development sessions offered by RIDE and the Providence School Department.
