Job summary

Garfield Elementary in Sioux Falls, SD is hiring a Special Education Support Professional for 0.875 FTE to assist students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs. The role includes 1:1 and small-group support, classroom assistance, and supervising students on campus.

Two years post-high school education or tested SD requirements are needed; experience with behavior management is preferred. Starting pay is $18.42 per hour with a $1,000 sign-on bonus.

Qualifications

• Two years of post high school education or higher, or be able to pass a standardized test approved by the state of South Dakota, for designated Education Assistant positions.
• At least one year of work experience in a position requiring interpersonal interaction skills and knowledge of strategies to support students with social, emotional, and behavior needs.

Responsibilities

• Escorts students to transportation and other areas of the building.
• As needed provides personal care to students with special daily living needs (e.g., toileting, feeding, physical management).
• Provides review and practice of skills taught by a teacher with students 1:1 and in small groups in special education classroom and/or regular classroom.
• Works with students in schools and on community outings.
• Prepares instructional materials as directed/selected by teacher.
• Provides clerical assistance to maintaining student records (charting, assignments, attendance, data for progress notes).
• Assists with the supervision of students during recess, lunchroom, and on the playground.
• Maintain the confidentiality of students and their families.
• Reinforces instructional and behavioral objectives for children.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
