Job summary

Barber National Institute's Elizabeth Lee Black School is seeking a Teacher's Assistant / Para Educator to support students with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, and behavioral challenges. You will assist teachers with IEPs, provide direct student support, and help create an engaging, structured learning environment.

The role requires a high school diploma (paraprofessional certification or 48 college credits preferred) and a commitment to safety, inclusion, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; paraprofessional certification or 48 college credits preferred.
• Experience with children, especially in a special education setting, is a plus.
• Eligibility for state police, child abuse history clearance, and FBI PDE clearance is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with implementing lesson plans tailored to students' individual needs.
• Provide one-on-one or small-group support to reinforce learning.
• Support students in developing social, behavioral, and academic skills.
• Assist with daily living activities and personal care as needed.
• Help with classroom organization, materials preparation, and record-keeping.
• Monitor student progress and communicate observations to the teacher.
• Encourage student engagement and participation in activities.
• Monitor and report behavioral concerns as they arise.
