Job summary

An educational institution for blind students in Maryland is seeking a dedicated assistant to support the classroom teacher in implementing individualized educational programs (IEPs). This role involves supervising student activities, assisting with personal hygiene, and providing technology support. Qualifications

  • Minimum of an Associate Degree, 48 college credits, or ParaPro Assessment required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Experience instructing students with severe and profound disabilities preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of child development and visual impairments is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the implementation of individualized educational programs.
  • Supervise student activities and assist with personal hygiene tasks.
  • Use communication devices and technology to facilitate learning.
  • Provide vocational job coaching.

Skills

Basic knowledge of special education principles
Experience with students having severe disabilities
Knowledge of visual impairments
Comprehensive computer knowledge
Ability to manage physical handling of students

Education

Associate Degree or 48 college credits
Bachelor's degree preferred
