Southampton Elementary School is seeking a student-centered Special Education Teacher (Leave Replacement) to co-teach Integrated Co-teaching Social Studies and lead STEAM instruction for diverse learners. The role emphasizes differentiated instruction, hands-on projects, and collaboration with general educators.

Requirements include NYS SWD certification for Grades 1-6, Bachelor’s degree, and NYS fingerprint clearance; workshops on abuse identification, school safety, and DASA are mandatory.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in Special Education preferred.
• NYS Certification in Students with Disabilities (SWD) for Grades 1-6.
• Active NYS Education Department fingerprint clearance.
• Mandatory NYS workshops: Child Abuse Identification/Reporting; SAVE; DASA; autism training.

Responsibilities

• Co-teach Social Studies and lead STEAM instruction using differentiated, project-based learning.
• Implement IEP/504 accommodations and track progress toward goals.
• Apply PBIS and, when needed, write/implement FBAs and BIPs.
• Collaborate with general ed teachers to plan, deliver, and assess standards-aligned curricula.
• Monitor student progress with data-informed instructional adjustments.
• Maintain ongoing communication with families about student growth and well‑being.
