Job summary

Manville School/Baker Center for Children and Families — located in Boston — is seeking an Assistant Teacher for Special Education (Grades K-2). The 10-month, full-time position provides academic and behavioral support under the supervision of a special education teacher.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field is required.
• Experience: Experience working with children/students with special needs, preferably in a classroom setting.
• Training: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suites. First Aid/CPR and Physical Restraint trainings is required or ability to participate in annual training at beginning of employment and annually or as needed throughout tenure.

Responsibilities

• Plans and implements individualized and small group lessons in specific curriculum areas (1-2 content areas) under the supervision of the special education teacher in the classroom.
• In conjunction with the classroom team (lead teacher and behavior support personnel), develop and implement classroom behavior management plan appropriate to the age and social/emotional levels of students.
• Actively participates in the daily operation of the classroom, including academic instruction and classroom management.
• Learns and employs effective behavior management techniques that are consistent with the school-wide model and structure.
• Fosters positive self-esteem and social growth of students through appropriate curriculum and behavioral structure.
• Writes Quarterly Progress Reports based on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students.
