Job summary

Duke Health in Durham, NC is hiring a Nursing Care Assistant I/Health Unit Coordinator for the Special Care Nursery. This PRN position supports RNs and LPNs, provides basic patient care, and helps manage the unit and EMR documentation.

The role requires maintaining BCLS certification, physical stamina for long shifts, and ability to lift up to 35 pounds. Relocation assistance may be available; nights shift 7pm–7:30am, with duties across admissions, transport, and care tasks.

Qualifications

• Vital signs monitoring and basic patient care duties.

• Ability to work within a multidisciplinary nursing team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with basic care and follow tasks assigned by RN/LPN.

• Maintain unit cleanliness, stock, and organization.
• Support admissions, discharges, and transport.
• Follow infection control practices and use PPE.
• Take and record vital signs and notify changes.
• Provide patient comfort and assist with mobility.
