In its Resolution A/RES/72/279, the United Nations General Assembly endorsed the transformation of the Development Operations Coordination Office (DCO) as a stand-alone coordination office within the United Nations Secretariat. DCO exercises managerial and oversight functions of the resident coordinator system under the oversight of the Chair of United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG). In 2026, DCO undertook a recalibration to ensure the RC system remains optimally configured to support the acceleration of the 2030 Agenda and embodies the UN 2.0 shift anchored in data, digital, innovation, behavioral science, strategic foresight, and a mission driven organizational culture. This position is located in the Front Office of the Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) of DCO in New York and reports to the DCO Chief of Staff. The Front Office supports the ASG in the strategic direction, coordination and management of DCO and in maintaining effective engagement with United Nations partners and other key stakeholders. In this context, the Special Assistant leads the establishment and maintenance of working relationships with key UN partners, particularly the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG) and the Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG), and supports effective coordination and engagement with United Nations agencies, funds and programmes and Secretariat departments. The Special Assistant also contributes to the preparation of substantive written outputs, including background papers, talking points, analyses and other materials required to support the ASG and the Front Office. The incumbent should have experience serving as a Special Assistant or in a comparable role.
