Job summary

Rockland Trust in Massachusetts is seeking a Special Assets Lending Specialist to provide administrative, operational, and portfolio management support for the Bank's Special Assets Group. This role concentrates on monitoring, reporting, documentation tracking, and loan servicing for adversely graded and other high‑risk commercial credits.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and operational support to the Special Assets Group for high-risk commercial credits.
  • Coordinate with Relationship Managers, Special Assets Officers, Loan Operations, Credit Administration, and legal teams.
  • Gather and organize borrower financial info, collateral, guarantor data, and other credit materials.
  • Manage transfer of customer files to Special Assets, ensuring complete records.
  • Coordinate loan modifications, renewals, extensions, and forbearance docs.
  • Order appraisals, flood determinations, environmental reports, insurance docs.
  • Monitor documentation gaps and obtain outstanding items.
  • Process loan payments, advances, payoffs, and fee transactions.
  • Maintain files, databases, and portfolio management reports.
  • Assist with internal audits and regulatory examinations.
  • Support periodic reporting for the Special Assets portfolio.
  • Learn and apply commercial loan documentation and servicing processes.
  • Track payment of third-party invoices and expenses.
  • Participate in special projects and process improvements.

The Special Assets Lending Specialist provides administrative, operational, and portfolio management support to the Bank's Special Assets Group. This position serves as a key resource for Special Assets Officers by assisting with account monitoring, reporting, documentation management, loan servicing activities, expense tracking, and portfolio administration for adversely graded, criticized, classified, and other higher‑risk commercial credit relationships.

The Special Assets Lending Specialist acts as a liaison between Special Assets, Commercial Loan Operations, Credit Administration, Documentation, attorneys, borrowers, and other internal business partners to ensure accurate recordkeeping, timely information flow, and adherence to Bank procedures and regulatory requirements.

This role is primarily focused on portfolio administration, loan servicing support, monitoring, reporting, and documentation tracking. The position does not have direct responsibility for workout negotiations, restructuring strategies, relationship management, or borrower resolution plans.

Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative and operational support to the Special Assets Group in managing criticized, classified, and other higher‑risk commercial credit relationships.
  • Act as a liaison between Relationship Managers, Special Assets Officers, Loan Operations, Credit Administration, Documentation, attorneys, borrowers, and other internal departments.
  • Assist with gathering, organizing, and maintaining borrower financial information, collateral documentation, guarantor information, and other credit‑related materials.
  • Manage the transfer of customer files and information from Relationship Managers to Special Assets team, including the complete and accurate customer and loan files.
  • Coordinate the preparation, tracking, and processing of loan modifications, renewals, extensions, forbearance agreements, and other Special Assets documentation.
  • Order and track appraisals, flood determinations, environmental reports, insurance certificates, and other required third‑party documentation.
  • Monitor documentation exceptions and deficiencies and assist in obtaining outstanding items.
  • Process loan payments, advances, payoffs, fee transactions, account maintenance requests, and other loan servicing activities.
  • Maintain customer files, department files, databases, tracking systems, and portfolio management reporting.
  • Assist with internal audits, regulatory examinations, and compliance reviews.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements for the Special Assets portfolio.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of commercial loan documentation, loan servicing processes, Special Assets procedures, and operational requirements.
  • Monitor, manage and track the payment of third‑party invoices and expense allocations to customers

Requirements
  • Bachelors Degree preferred
  • 2-5 years of experience in commercial banking, credit administration, loan operations, commercial loan servicing, Special Assets, collections, or related financial services.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with commercial loan origination, servicing, document imaging, or portfolio management systems preferred.
  • Ability to collect, organize, track, and maintain borrower and loan documentation in support of portfolio monitoring activities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive customer and portfolio information appropriately.
  • Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with criticized asset management, loan modifications, and commercial credit administration preferred.
