Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician II in Worcester, MA to perform decontamination, inspection/assembly, high-level disinfection, sterilization, storage and distribution of instruments across the network. Work under the Sterile Processing Leadership Team in a 40-hour schedule with day shift responsibilities.

Responsibilities include ensuring instrument safety, maintaining clean workspaces, and adhering to IFUs and safety guidelines while supporting quality

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Central Sterile Processing Technician certification that has been held for one year.
• Knowledge of sterilization standards/procedures.
• Proficiency with basic computer functions.

Responsibilities

• Decontamination, inspection/assembly and sterilization/HLD tasks as outlined by policy and IFUs.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organized workspace.
• Record and route instruments for proper sterilization or HLD; monitor safety and efficacy testing.
• Take charge when most senior technician is available; rotate as needed.
• Contributes to continuous quality improvement and adheres to safety requirements.

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Hiring Range: $22.25 - $37.27

(based on a full time schedule of 40 hours per week).

Please note that the final offer will vary based on scheduled hours. Compensation for part-time or reduced schedules will be prorated based on scheduled weekly hours, experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.

Schedule Details: Holidays - Every Other Holiday, Holidays - Every Third Holiday, Monday through Friday, Weekends (Saturday and Sunday)

Under the direction of the Sterile Processing Leadership Team, an SPD Tech I will perform decontamination, inspection/assembly, high level disinfection(HLD)/sterilization, storage and distribution of instruments, devices and medical equipment throughout the UMass Network, along with other associated tasks, utilizing infection control and safety practices during all phases of the process while maintaining a clean, safe and organized workspace.

I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Decontamination
   • Collects, receives and records soiled instruments/equipment/devices for decontamination process and associated tasks as outlined by established policy/process, guided by industry regulations/recommendations and manufacturer's instructions for use (IFU).
   • Utilizes equipment, tools, solutions and personal protective equipment in a prescribed manner while following universal safety precautions.
   • Maintains clean, safe and organized workspace and other associated tasks.
2. Inspection/Assembly
   • Inspects for cleanliness and proper functioning, assembles, packages and records instruments/devices and equipment following the established procedure for each.
   • Maintains clean, safe and organized workspace and other associated tasks.
3. Sterilization/High Level Disinfection (HLD)
   • Records and routes instruments/equipment/devices for proper sterilization or HLD as identified and outlined by manufacturer's IFU and performs identified process/cycle with appropriate equipment.
   • Performs, monitors and records routine safety/efficacy testing of associated equipment in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and industry standards.
   • Maintains clean, safe and organized workspace and other associated tasks.
4. Sterile Storage
   • Ensures proper inventory, rotation and distribution of instruments, devices, equipment and supplies and carts as observed by supervisors.
   • Assemble and distribute instruments and supplies according needs of end user.
   • Maintains clean, safe and organized workspace and other associated tasks.

Sterile Processing Technician II

Job Profile Summary

Under the direction of the Sterile Processing Leadership Team, an SPD Technician II will decontaminate, inspect, assemble, high-level disinfect (HLD), sterilize, store, and distribute instruments, devices and medical equipment throughout the UMass Memorial Medical Center, along with other associated tasks. They will utilize infection control and safety practices during all phases of the process while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized workspace. They will contribute towards quality improvement and function independently as technicians.

Job Description

I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Charge
   • Expected to take charge if they're the most senior technician (weekday or weekend). Others can volunteer, but they need to take charge if no one is interested. (Will rotate with multiple SPD Tech II's)
2. Continuous Quality Improvement
   • Performs quality audits
3. Decontamination

5. High-Level Disinfection and Sterilization
   • Records and routes instrumentation, equipment, and devices for proper sterilization or high-level disinfection (HLD) as identified and outlined by manufacturer's IFUs.
   • Performs identified HLD process or sterilization cycle with appropriate equipment.
   • Performs, monitors, and records routine safety and efficacy testing of associated equipment in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and industry standards.
   • Maintains a clean, safe and organized workspace.
   • Other associated tasks.
6. Sterile Storage
   • Ensures proper inventory, rotation, and distribution of instrumentation, equipment, and carts as observed by supervisors.
   • Distributes instruments and supplies according to the needs of the end user.
