Job description

Systems Planning Corporation (SPC), a subsidiary of GAI Consultants, Inc., is seeking an Environmental Specialist with Field Compliance Monitoring experience to be based in Canton, OH or Columbus, OH, within our Energy Business Unit. This fully remote position requires travel to project sites and offers an excellent opportunity to expand knowledge in federal and state environmental regulations, primarily in Ohio and Michigan, with potential projects in West Virginia, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

The successful candidate will serve as a field lead, performing various assignments with minimal supervision, including:

  1. Field monitoring of erosion and sediment controls on construction projects.
  2. Reviewing specifications, permits, and plans related to E&S control and stormwater management.
  3. Preparing and reviewing monitoring reports and assisting with environmental reports and permit applications.
  4. Adhering to health, safety, and quality standards.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Proficiency with GPS devices and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass screening for driving GAI vehicles.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel, including overnight stays.

Preferred:

  • Associates degree in engineering, environmental science, or related field.
  • 2-4 years of field monitoring experience, especially in E&S control.
  • Experience with environmental due diligence, NPDES regulations, AutoCAD, GIS, and environmental compliance.
Additional Information
  • Travel requirement: 75%, including overnight stays.
  • Physical demands include walking on unimproved terrain and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Minimum 4+ years of experience and a bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or similar field.
  • Technical skills include data collection, report writing, and knowledge of environmental regulations and practices.
  • Teamwork, communication, and project management skills are essential.
