Pay Philosophy

The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. The full salary range reflects the competitive market value across the nation and offers opportunities for growth as employees develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual may include a compensation plan with commissions and/or bonuses, which vary based on multiple factors outlined in the plan.

Position Overview

The Environmental Claims Specialist handles investigation, evaluation, and disposition of environmental claims, including high-exposure or complex coverage cases. This role involves managing claims with severe injuries and includes some personal lines environmental cases. The position is primarily remote but may require in-office presence twice a month depending on location.

Additional Benefits

This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $2,500 after 90 days, contingent on holding an active All-Lines Adjuster license in Florida or Texas, with documentation required.

Training & Attendance

Training is vital for success, requiring reliable attendance and active engagement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong background in casualty, litigation, coverage analysis, and writing coverage position letters.
  • Experience in environmental claims.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, investigate, resolve claims, evaluate coverage, liability, damages, and recommend resolutions beyond authority limits to management.
  • Identify suspicious claims and refer to SIU; seek third-party subrogation opportunities.
  • Prepare for and attend trials, hearings, and conferences; report to management.
  • Collaborate with trial counsel and prepare trial reports.
  • Communicate with policyholders, witnesses, and claimants; gather information and advise on actions.
  • Respond to inquiries and ensure reserves are adequate, recommending increases when necessary.
  • Handle the security of financial processing and claim files.
  • Manage practices and billing with outside and in-house counsel.
  • Assist in regulatory matters and participate in special projects or mentoring as directed.

Qualifications

  • Expertise in coverage, liability, and complex claims handling.
  • Ability to handle high-complexity claims effectively.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws in jurisdiction.
  • Proficiency in claims procedures and operations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, investigative, and negotiation skills.
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent and at least 7 years of related experience.
  • Ability to obtain necessary licensing.
