Job summary

Intermountain Health is seeking a Professional Medical Interpreter to provide interpretation services across all facilities and virtual programs. You will work to ensure accurate interpretation in medical contexts and maintain strict confidentiality and ethical standards.

The role is PRN with variable shifts (days, evenings, nights, weekends) and supports Taylorsville and West Valley clinics in Utah. Bilingual English-Spanish required; candidates must meet professional interpreter qualifications.

Qualifications

• Excellent oral and written command of both source and target language(s) to professional proficiency (ILR Level 3 or equivalent).
• Performs consecutive, simultaneous and sight translation with high accuracy in both languages.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
• Certificate of completion from a 40-hr Professional Medical Interpreter course.

Responsibilities

• Interpret medical and general information with high accuracy for patients, families, and staff in multiple modes.
• Demonstrate expert knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare systems.
• Serve as a cultural mediator, ensuring accurate exchange in proper cultural context.
• Adhere to ethics and HIPAA, civil rights acts, and patient rights laws.
• Maintain timely responses and provide staff with estimated arrival times for interpretation assignments.
