Job summary

The University of Rochester Medical Center seeks a Spanish interpreter to provide interpreting services for clinical and professional staff, patients, and families across inpatient and outpatient settings.

You will manage workflow between source and target languages, respond to pages, and adapt interpretation method (consecutive, simultaneous, sight translation) and delivery modality (in-person, video, telephone) per patient needs.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Spanish-English medical interpretation.
• Able to interpret in clinical and professional URMC settings across inpatient and outpatient environments.
• Familiarity with NYS Code of Rules and Regulations 405.7 and hospital policies.

Responsibilities

• Manages flow of communication autonomously between source and target languages during medical and non-medical encounters.
• Remains available and responsive to pages; adheres to NYS paging guidelines (40 minutes for outpatient/inpatient, 10 minutes for ED).
• Interprets assignments in a timely, professional manner following hospital policy.
• Assesses patient needs and selects appropriate interpretation approach and terminology.
• Triages and prioritizes multiple service requests to support patient care.
• Proposes suitable service delivery modality (in-person, video, telephone) based on patient needs.
