Summary:

This role provides patient, guardians, and staff access to interpreters who accurately interpret face-to-face during designated hours as scheduled in the broadcasting system. Spanish Interpreters must be bilingual and proficient in English and Spanish, interpreting healthcare information for Spanish-speaking patients/guardians and Cook Children's Medical Center Prosper healthcare providers. The role includes providing interpretation and translation services for emergency and inpatient care, acting as a Language Liaison between patients, guardians, and staff to support the medical care plan. The interpreter facilitates access to interpretation services for other languages through OPI, VRI, or on-site services.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proficiency in English and a secondary language, with a special emphasis on Spanish.
  • Experience in interpretation/translation preferred.
  • Spanish interpreters/translators must meet proficiency levels defined by Cook Children's, measured through objective, nationally recognized tests of oral, reading, and writing skills.
  • All applicants are tested to determine Spanish proficiency; testing is conducted by a contracted service prior to employment completion.
  • Applicants must meet minimum proficiency levels to qualify; proficiency levels are verified annually after employment.
  • Basis Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers is required within 30 days of employment and must be maintained according to Medical Center Policy MC 175.

Note: Training will be completed at the Fort Worth campus.
