Job summary

Superior Court of California, County of Ventura is seeking a Spanish interpreter to provide sworn interpreting and translation services in courtroom proceedings and related settings. The interpreter will handle consecutive, simultaneous and sight translations for judges, attorneys and court personnel.

Qualifications include high school completion and a current Certified Court Interpreter certification in Spanish issued by the Judicial Council.

Qualifications

• Ability to orally convey meaning between English and Spanish in simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation modes.
• Ability to interpret impartially without editing or omitting meaning.
• Knowledge of English and Spanish grammar and vocabulary.
• Knowledge of culture and customs of Spanish-speaking communities.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Perform consecutive and simultaneous interpretation of courtroom proceedings and sight translation.
• Provide written translation of documents for court use as directed.
• Coordinate daily office activities as assigned by the department.
• Notify court of issues that may impede interpreter performance.
• Research court terminology including legal, technological, scientific, and medical terms.
