Job summary

Candidates should have 3+ years in Spanish medical interpretation, a high school diploma or GED, and NBCMI or CHI certification. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and completion of Bridging the Gap are expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate’s Degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a foreign language (Spanish) medical interpreter and translations in a healthcare role.
• National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI) or Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CHI).
• Complete departmental oral and written translation assessment.
• Proficient in the use of computer software, including the Microsoft Office suite or similar.
• Successful completion of the 40-hour Bridging the Gap course.

Responsibilities

• Provide face-to-face medical interpretation primarily for patients, family members, and visitors.
• Provide telephone interpretation services, as needed.
• Assist with document translation, including providing medical document translations for UVA Community Health facilities, as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality in all matters related to patient care and visitor issues.
• Communicate effectively to meet the needs of all internal and external stakeholders.
