Qualifications

• Fluent in both English and the pupil's primary language.

• Subject matter knowledge for assigned classes.
• General classroom procedures and rules of conduct.
• Effective communication skills in both languages.

Responsibilities

• Familiarize with the cultural heritage of students in bilingual classes.
• Translate for teachers, students and parents as required.
• Reinforce learning concepts using students' primary language.
• Assist in supervision of students' activities.
• Prepare instructional materials and copies as needed.
• Assist in development of English language for LEP students.
• Monitor student progress and discuss improvements with teachers.
• Assist in administering tests and examinations as needed.
• Explain and clarify work assignments to students, translating as necessary.
• Supervise students in classrooms and during library time.
• Refer discipline issues to instructors when necessary.
• Accompany classes on field trips when needed.
