Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Softgoods Engineering Technologist to join the team working with Oceaneering on space suit softgoods. You will design, develop, and test softgoods for advanced exploration space suits and related items, collaborating with engineers and technicians to meet requirements and ensure quality.

The role emphasizes hands-on fabrication, CAD proficiency, and ability to communicate design concepts clearly.

Qualifications

Experience in a soft goods development lab environment with emphasis in soft goods design and fabrication.
Demonstrated capability to devise solutions to complex design challenges independently and with inputs from others.
Expertise in hands-on fabrication techniques and sewing such as sewing machines, laser cutters, fabric welders, 3D printers, bandsaws, drills, hand tools, etc.
Proficiency with CAD programs and software like Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience reading fabrication drawings and creating fabrication drawings.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, fabricate, and test softgoods for space suits and related items.
Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and designers to understand requirements for suited space systems.
Create patterns and mockups to verify fit and function of softgoods.
Document new design work and clearly define processes and techniques.
Occasionally travel to NASA centers or contractors for fabrication and installation.
