Job summary

Rocket Lab in Long Beach, CA is seeking a Spacecraft Mechanical Engineer I to join our Space Systems team. You will develop high‑performance satellite deployment systems, mechanisms, and bus configurations, and work hands‑on with flight hardware to drive mission success.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in aerospace or mechanical engineering, CAD experience, and the ability to obtain DoD clearance. US citizenship is required for program eligibility, with equity and strong benefits included.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering or other engineering discipline.
• Mechanical engineering experience.
• Experience with CAD modeling and drawing.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance; US citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

• Support business development with proposals and mission concepts.
• Develop high performance, lightweight satellite systems and bus configurations.
• Design concepts for high value science and interplanetary missions.
• Define mechanisms on modern satellite systems/bus.
• Own component designs from concept through production, test and operation.
• Perform hand calculations and FEA to drive design decisions.
• Lead key component design, manufacturing, and test reviews.
• Create and maintain product definitions via CAD, drawings, and procedures.
• Manage development schedules, vendors, budgets, and deliverables.
