Job summary

Rocket Lab in Long Beach, CA seeks a Spacecraft Mechanical Engineer I to join the Space Systems team. You will develop high‑performance satellite deployment mechanisms, bus configurations, and work hands‑on with flight hardware to advance mission programs for civil, commercial, and defense customers.

The role requires a BS in aerospace/mechanical engineering, CAD experience, and U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain DoD clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering or related field.
• Mechanical engineering experience.
• Experience with CAD modeling and drawing.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
• U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

• Support Business Development with proposals and mission concepts.
• Develop high performance satellite systems, mechanisms, and bus configurations.
• Define satellite mechanisms and configurations for space missions.
• Own component designs from concept through production, test, and operation.
• Perform hand calculations and FEA to drive design decisions.
• Lead component design reviews and test reviews.
• Create and maintain product definitions through CAD and drawings.
• Manage development schedules, vendors, and budgets.
