Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a TeraWave Materials & Processes Engineer to establish and manage materials and process controls across spacecraft bus systems and RF/optical payloads. You will protect electrical, mechanical, thermal, and optical performance from design through fleet sustainment.

You will lead M&P strategy, qualify materials for vacuum, radiation, atomic oxygen, and launch environments, and collaborate with designers, suppliers, and manufacturing teams to enable high-rate, repeatable

Qualifications

  • B.S. in materials science/engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years in aerospace materials and processes or high-reliability hardware.
  • Knowledge of metals/composites, joining, coatings, lubrication, contamination, corrosion, thermal-control materials, soldering, PCB/CCA fabrication, harnesses.
  • Experience reviewing drawings/specifications, qualifying materials/processes, and dispositioning nonconformances.
  • Ability to connect material/process choices to electrical, mechanical, thermal, radiation, reliability outcomes.
  • Ability to work with designers, technicians, manufacturing engineers, quality, supply chain, and suppliers.
  • U.S. citizenship or eligible status for U.S. work authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the TeraWave Materials and Processes Plan across spacecraft bus systems and RF/optical payloads.
  • Provide M&P technical authority for mechanical, thermal, RF, and optical hardware.
  • Review drawings, specifications, source-control documents, and supplier plans for compliance.
  • Select and qualify materials/processes for vacuum, radiation, atomic oxygen, thermal cycling, humidity, contamination, and launch environments.
  • Establish prohibited materials controls and shelf-life considerations.
  • Define requirements for soldering, crimping, bonding, welding, and other attachment methods.
  • Partner with harness engineering and PCB/CCA teams on compatibility and workmanship.
  • Investigate contamination, corrosion, and other material/process anomalies.
