Job summary

EVONA and our space technology partner seek a Principal Embedded Systems Engineer to own architecture from concept to flight readiness. Role spans hardware and software across processors, microcontrollers, FPGAs, and interfaces. You will guide hardware/software integration, testing, and system validation for spacecraft-level avionics.

The position can be structured as principal IC or leadership track, depending on experience; location options include Albuquerque, NM or Santa Clara, CA.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of embedded systems experience in space, aerospace, defense, robotics, autonomous systems, or similar complex hardware.
• Strong C/C++ and real-time embedded software experience.
• Experience selecting and working with processors, microcontrollers, FPGAs, memory, and embedded interfaces.
• Hands-on board bring-up, debugging, firmware development, and hardware/software integration.
• Experience interfacing directly with sensors, actuators, motors, cameras, or other electronic hardware.
• Understanding of deterministic timing, interrupts, synchronization, concurrency, and RTOS environments.
• Experience with CAN, SpaceWire, Ethernet, RS-422/485, SPI, I2C, UART, or LVDS.

Responsibilities

• Own embedded architecture from initial design through integration and flight readiness.
• Lead HW/SW integration, testing, and verification activities.
• Oversee HIL/SIL testing and system-level validation.
• Collaborate across hardware, firmware, and software teams; interface with sensors/actuators.
