Job summary

Astro Digital in Littleton, CO is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design and implement low-level software across spacecraft subsystems. You will work on firmware that interfaces with sensors, actuators, and power systems, with hands-on hardware bring-up and rapid iteration.

The role emphasizes independent execution, system-level growth, and collaboration with senior engineers to achieve reliable, scalable software for space applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in EE, CE, CS, or related field.
• 5 years of embedded software experience.
• Proficiency in C and modern C++.
• Experience developing firmware in bare-metal or minimally abstracted environments.
• Strong understanding of interrupt-driven design, memory-mapped I/O and peripheral configuration.
• Experience writing low-level drivers and interfacing with SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO, DMA.
• Ability to read datasheets/reference manuals to configure hardware.
• Experience debugging embedded systems with GDB, JTAG/SWD and lab equipment.
• Familiarity with RTOS concepts and embedded Linux development.
• Experience with Git-based workflows.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain embedded software for spacecraft subsystems and supporting electronics.
• Write and debug low-level drivers and board support code.
• Interface directly with hardware (SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO, DMA).
• Support hardware bring-up and debugging with lab tools.
• Deliver working implementations quickly and iterate for reliability and performance.
• Debug embedded systems using GDB, JTAG/SWD, and lab equipment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system interfaces.
• Participate in integration, HIL testing, and system validation.
• Contribute to Python-based test, automation, and data analysis workflows.
