Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a spacecraft autonomy and controls engineer to develop on-board autonomy algorithms and flight software for the Lunar Permanence program. You will derive requirements, build models, and implement control code in MATLAB/Simulink to support verification and testing of autonomous subsystems.

The role emphasizes collaboration across GN&C and other teams, with duties spanning model development, simulation, verification, and validation to ensure safe human spaceflight and robust

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
  • MS/PhD in aerospace engineering or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in modeling and simulation of autonomy and controls operations.
  • Familiarity with flight management, guidance, control, navigation, and astrodynamics fundamentals.
  • Experience with MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship or eligible for U.S. employment.

Responsibilities

  • Derive and develop autonomy requirements, perform analyses and trades to validate requirements, and maintain subsystem specification, and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with GN&C and other subsystems and spacecraft systems engineers to support the development of plant models.
  • Build control code in Simulink to support autocoding to target.
  • Support development and execution of simulations and tools for verification of functionalities.
  • Use MATLAB and Simulink to analyze, unit test, and verify control and autonomy algorithms.
  • Support verification and testing, ensuring the subsystem complies with its requirements.
