Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Space Warfighting Modeling and Simulation Engineer in Maryland to develop advanced models and simulations for national security space missions. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, astronomy, mathematics, computer science, or related technical field.
• 5+ years of demonstrated experience developing, modifying, executing, and analyzing system- or mission-level simulations.
• Experience using programming/scripting languages such as AFSIM Script, Python, MATLAB, Linux/BASH.
• Ability to analyze technical data and use results to answer system- or mission-level questions.
• Ability to communicate technical approaches, assumptions, results, and limitations to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to sponsor locations.
• Eligible for TS/SCI clearance with links; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Develop new models and leverage tools to conduct complex analyses for national security space missions.
• Translate questions into well-defined simulation studies and experiments.
• Design, execute modeling experiments, analyze results, and form defensible conclusions.
• Model and assess sensor performance for space object tracking and discrimination.
• Evaluate system performance from hardware/software changes and architecture.
• Analyze effects of data latency, sensor performance, and architecture on missions.
• Apply programming tools to develop models and evaluate results.
• Collaborate with teams and communicate methods and conclusions to sponsors.
• Grow domain knowledge in space mission modeling, simulation, and analysis.
