Job summary

SAIC seeks a Space Systems Engineer – Orbital Analysis to support the 18th Space Defense Squadron and U.S. Space Force at Vandenberg SFB, CA. You will perform advanced orbital analysis and integrate data from space object tracking sensors to enhance Space Domain Awareness.

This role requires TS/SCI with poly, collaboration across space operations centers, and strong engineering rigor for mission support. Regular hours with occasional after-hours as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Astronautical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related STEM field.
• 3–9 years of space systems engineering or orbital analysis experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in orbital mechanics and astrodynamics.
• Experience with space object tracking sensors and data.
• Familiarity with Red Hat Linux and MS Office; strong written/verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced orbital analysis for SDA missions, including orbit determination/prediction and maneuvers.
• Develop and optimize analytical methods and workflows for spaceflight safety and defense operations.
• Integrate data from tracking sensors; assess data quality and sensor performance.
• Configure and use ASW, Atlas, and similar software in SDA environments.
• Create and maintain CONOPS, SOPs, and engineering reports for missions.
• Collaborate with operators, analysts, and engineers across centers and offices.
• Provide technical guidance on orbital mechanics to support troubleshooting and enhancements.
