Job summary

Barrios Technology is seeking a Wireless Communications Engineer to join our team supporting NASA exploration programs. The role focuses on RF communications systems engineering for ISS, Orion, Moon Base and Exploration efforts, reviewing CCSDS-based protocols and performing link-budget analyses.

The candidate will collaborate with NASA centers and external partners, contribute to SRRs/CDRs, and apply Matlab/Simulink for RF analyses while leveraging C/C++ and Python skills in a demanding,

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Electrical Engineering from an accredited school with 10+ years in the field.
• Must have completed college level RF Communications coursework such as Digital communications, DSP, Microwave, satellite communications, Estimation and Detection theory.
• Strong analytical skills in RF communications.
• Strong knowledge of communication systems (digital modulation, demodulation, encoding/decoding, spread spectrum signals, data formatting).
• Excellent communication and organizational skills and ability to work in a team.
• U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (3 years) and able to pass a U.S. government background investigation.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an RF Communications Systems Engineer for the Communication and Tracking Sub-System Analysis Team for ISS, Orion, Moon Base and Exploration Programs.
• Review Link and network layer protocols implemented on communication systems based on CCSDS recommendations.
• Determine RF link performance and create link budgets using analysis and simulations.
• Participate in SRR, PDR, CDR and Technical Interchange Meetings.
• Perform RF interference & compatibility analysis, Power Flux Density analysis, spectral analysis using Matlab, Simulink and Excel.
• Review IRD, VRs, ICDs and component level requirements (Transponders, Transceivers, baseband processors).
• Assist NASA RF subsystem manager with reviews, meetings and be the technical POC.
• Represent JSC and interface with other NASA centers, federal agencies, and partners.
• Other duties as required.
