Job summary

NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, seeks an Engineering Applications Software Engineer to design, develop, and modify engineering applications for spacecraft, instruments, and mission software.

You will support inflight vehicle operations and be exposed to advanced modelling and simulation for power systems. The role requires software engineering excellence, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and a focus on reliability and safety.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related technical disciplines with 1 year of related experience; or Master’s degree in similar disciplines with 0 years of related experience.
  • Knowledge in modelling and simulation, algorithm and code development, analog electronics, controls, power systems design, systems engineering, reliability engineering, integration and test.
  • Understanding and application of advanced principles, theories, concepts and techniques in systems engineering.
  • Experience in programming in C, C++, Java and/or Python in UNIX/Linux or real-time OS environments (e.g., VxWorks).
  • Experience with IDEs, compilers, and static analyzers; capable of analysing modern systems and software requirements, architecture, and test procedures.
  • Experience with GitHub and JIRA; quick learner with excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize domain expertise to understand customer needs, translate them into requirements, develop prototype applications, and deliver quality software.
  • Participate in the full life-cycle of the system including planning, development, deployment and maintenance.
  • Meet software operational and engineering requirements; support spacecraft operations.
  • Contribute to power subsystem design engineering teams and perform analyses and recommendations.
  • Present power system concepts to management and technical staff; explore new tools that improve quality, reliability, and safety.
  • Assist in model-based assurance, static code analysis, and independent verification of systems and AI/LLMs.
  • Collaborate in a team environment focused on continual improvement and long-term growth.
