Job summary

Leidos is hiring a Payload Production Project Engineer in Huntsville, AL to serve as the critical link between program leadership and the manufacturing floor for OPIR space payload programs supporting SDA missions.

You will drive production status, coordinate with engineering and quality, and ensure visibility into hardware flow, NCRs, and test events, while maintaining compliance and timely communication across teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, manufacturing, or related field with 4+ years of experience, or MS with 2+ years.
• Experience in electronics hardware execution, production coordination, or systems integration on defense/space programs.
• Experience with flight hardware production, assembly, integration, and test.
• Ability to translate program direction to floor status and communicate to leadership.
• Must obtain and maintain an Active Secret clearance; US Citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily hardware status updates to the Operations Lead and Production Manager; lead daily build station standups with technicians and inspectors.
• Maintain real-time awareness of flight hardware location, build status, and configuration across the production floor.
• Monitor production flow; identify impacts to schedule and surface recovery discussions to leadership.
• Track program-level changes and ensure documentation, travelers, and processes are updated for manufacturing.
• Coordinate with Manufacturing and Engineering to reflect latest engineering direction in travelers; flag discrepancies early.
• Maintain awareness of NCRs and MRB dispositions and communicate status to leadership.
• Coordinate and support critical test events including functional, environmental, and electrical tests; track status to resolution.
• Support PSR preparation with Quality and Engineering; ensure items are visible and resolved.
• Support customer and Government Source Inspection activities.
• Document lessons learned after each unit delivery for continuous improvement.
• Drive issues to closure across Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Program interfaces.
