Job summary

Leidos Space Systems is seeking a Project Engineer in Huntsville, AL to bridge program leadership and production teams on OPIR Space Payload programs. You will translate direction into floor actions, track hardware status, and keep leadership informed of production impacts.

The role requires a mechanical/manufacturing background with experience in defense space hardware, NCR/MRB familiarity, and ability to operate across offices and the shop floor.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, or related technical field with 4+ years of experience, or MS with 2+ years of experience.
• Experience in hardware execution, production coordination, or systems integration on defense aerospace or space hardware programs.
• Experience with flight hardware production including assembly, integration, and test of complex electro-optical or electronic systems.
• Ability to translate program direction to floor-level actions and communicate status to leadership clearly.
• Familiarity with configuration management (ECPs, CCBs) and NCR/MRB processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily hardware status updates to Operations Lead and Production Manager and lead build station stand-ups.
• Maintain real-time visibility of flight hardware location and build status on the floor.
• Monitor production flow, assess schedule impacts, and surface issues to leadership.
• Track program-level changes and ensure documentation and travelers reflect latest engineering direction.
• Coordinate with Manufacturing and Engineering to ensure travelers reflect latest direction and flag discrepancies.
• Monitor NCRs and MRB dispositions and communicate status with urgency.
• Support critical test events (functional, environmental, electrical) and ATP execution.
