Job summary

Leidos in Huntsville, AL seeks a Payload Production Project Engineer to support OPIR space payload programs. You will bridge program leadership and manufacturing, ensuring real-time visibility into hardware status and production impacts on the floor.

The role requires strong communication, experience in electronics hardware production, and the ability to translate program direction into floor actions while maintaining NCR/MRB processes and configuration control.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, or related technical field with 4+ years of experience or MS with 2+ years of experience.
• Experience with electronics hardware execution, production coordination, or systems integration on a defense aerospace or space hardware production program.
• Experience with flight hardware production including assembly, integration, and test of complex electro-optical or electronic systems.
• Strong ability to translate program direction to the floor and communicate floor-level status to leadership.
• Familiarity with configuration management, including ECPs, CCBs, and as-built documentation.
• Experience with Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) processes and MRB dispositions.
• Knowledge of manufacturing execution systems such as Solumina or equivalent.
• Excellent verbal and written communication across organizational levels.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an Active Secret clearance; US Citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear daily hardware status updates to the Operations Lead and Production Manager.
• Lead and participate in daily build station stand-ups with technicians and inspectors.
• Maintain real-time awareness of flight hardware location, build status, and configuration.
• Ensure visibility is communicated to program leadership with appropriate urgency.
• Monitor production flow and hardware movement; surface impacts to leadership.
• Track program-level changes back to the Manufacturing team.
• Ensure travelers and documentation reflect latest engineering direction.
• Coordinate with Manufacturing and Engineering to reflect latest direction at every build step.
• Flag discrepancies before they affect hardware.
• Maintain NCRs and MRB dispositions awareness on the floor.
• Support critical test events and ensure test status is tracked to resolution.
• Assist PSR preparation with Quality and Engineering; ensure items are resolved prior to delivery.
• Support customer and Government Source Inspection activities.
• Document lessons learned after each unit delivery for continuous improvement.
