Job summary

Interlune Corporation in Seattle, WA, and its Houston Research Lab, seeks an Instrument Engineer to design, prototype, test, and integrate sensors and payload instrumentation for space environments including the lunar surface.

You will develop software in Python or MATLAB for data acquisition, participate in hands-on assembly and testing, and contribute to mission planning and design reviews. A strong foundation in planetary science or aerospace engineering is essential.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or equivalent in a technical discipline such as planetary science, aerospace, electrical engineering or physics.
  • Experience with scientific instrumentation from university projects, capstones or internships.
  • Programming or scripting in Python or MATLAB for data collection and analysis.
  • Collaborative, cross-disciplinary mindset balancing science objectives with engineering constraints.
  • Strong first principles knowledge of physics and engineering fundamentals.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineering and science teams to design, prototype, and test space instruments.
  • Assemble, calibrate, and test instrumentation hardware in lab environments.
  • Support mission planning and determine achievable measurement objectives.
  • Develop software for data acquisition and sensor interfacing (Python, MATLAB, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot, perform failure analysis, and contribute to design verification of prototypes.
  • Document designs and test results, and participate in design reviews.
  • Communicate effectively with peers, leadership, and external stakeholders.
