Job summary

Axiom Space is seeking a resilient Prototype Designer to craft mockups and prototype hardware for concept validation, engineering development, and crew training. The role requires expertise in CAD/CAM, fabrication methods, and hands-on tools to build representative hardware in a fast-paced environment.

Ideal candidates have experience with Solidworks or Rhino 3D, Mastercam or VCarve, and proficiency with 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC routing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or technical degree in Design or Engineering with fabrication/R&D shop experience.
• Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (Solidworks/Rhino 3D; Mastercam/VCarve).
• Experience creating schematics and assembly drawings; safe tool operation.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineering and production to develop projects.
• Lead design of mockup and prototype hardware.
• Use CAD to create models and production files.
• Program and operate digital fabrication tools (laser cutters, 3D printers, CNC).
• Fabricate components with hand/power tools; operate shop equipment.
• Communicate project progress to stakeholders; support agile methodologies.
