Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a motivated intern to advance technical work in constellation design, astrodynamics, and multi-objective optimization. You will support current and future space-system architecture analyses and develop modeling and simulation tools for complex tasks.

Join a collaborative team, perform technical deep dives and trade studies, and present results with recommended solutions. This internship requires US citizenship and ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI clearance.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program in aerospace/astronautical/mechanical engineering, physics, operations research, mathematics, or related field.
  • Availability to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks and return to degree program after internship.
  • Coursework or experience in astrodynamics/orbital mechanics topics and space-based modeling, simulation, and analysis.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, C, or C++.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Eligibility to obtain Top Secret/SCI clearance (US citizenship required).
  • Transcripts required.
  • Experience leading or contributing to a technical team in the described areas.
  • Prior space-related work with US government agencies or contractors.
  • Familiarity with Aerospace Corporation tools including SOAP, GRIPS, and Revisit.
  • Experience with advanced mathematical topics, modern software development, integration, and testing practices.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment and handle changing priorities.

Job description

  • Develop and apply technical skills to real-world problems in constellation design, multi-objective optimization, and astrodynamics
  • Support analysis and design of current and future space system architectures
  • Develop, mature, and use analysis software tools for modeling and simulation tasks
  • Conduct technical deep dives, trade studies, performance assessments, and related analyses
  • Develop and present technically accurate presentations and reports communicating analysis results and recommended solutions
  • Collaborate with Aerospace technical personnel across multiple locations
  • Perform multiple simultaneous projects with varying internship tasking
  • Receive training and mentoring from full-time staff members
Requirements
  • Enrolled full time or accepted at an accredited college/university degree program pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. in aerospace, astronautical, or mechanical engineering, physics, operations research, mathematics, or a related field of science or engineering
  • Availability to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks outside of university term and ability to return to a Master’s or Ph.D. degree program after completion of the internship
  • Coursework or relevant experience in astrodynamics/orbital mechanics topics and space-based modeling, simulation, and analysis
  • Proficiency in one or more of: Python, MATLAB, C, C++
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and in teams
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance
  • US citizenship required to obtain a security clearance
  • Transcripts required
  • Research or professional experience leading or working as a member of a technical team in the described areas
  • Prior space-related work experience for a US government agency or contractor
  • Prior experience with Aerospace Corporation modeling and simulation tools, including SOAP, GRIPS, and Revisit
  • Familiarity with national security space or intelligence mission areas
  • Coursework or relevant experience in advanced mathematical topics, modern software development, integration, and testing practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapt quickly to changing priorities, and balance conflicting project demands
  • Current and active Top Secret/SCI clearance with a CI polygraph
