Job summary

The Aerospace Corporation in El Segundo, CA seeks an Electronic Component Structural Analysis Engineer Sr. Member of Technical Staff to apply solid mechanics and FEA to electronics packaging and space hardware.

You will perform design and analysis across project phases and coordinate tests. Ideal candidates have a PhD in mechanical or aerospace engineering, experience with finite element analyses, travel up to 20%, and the ability to obtain security clearance.

Qualifications

• PhD in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field (pursuing or conferred within last 12 months).
• 0–1 year of industry experience.
• Experience performing finite element analyses.
• Experience with structural mechanics incl. elasticity, plasticity, and fatigue.
• Willingness to travel ~20% to domestic or international sites.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance (U.S. citizenship).

Responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate, and resolve structural design and test issues for electronics components.
• Coordinate detailed structural analyses to identify failure mechanisms and modes.
• Develop design/analysis criteria, requirements, and specs across design phases.
• Develop and coordinate test plans, procedures, and success criteria for structural tests.
• Monitor budgets and resource allocations; coordinate with other disciplines.
• Inform management and customers of technical issues and recommend actions.
• Maintain and advance skills in linear/non-linear finite element methods and thermo-mechanical analysis.
